True spiritual healing is without question the most dramatic and mysterious healing of all. Examples of this type appear in the Bible when, with only His word or His touch, Jesus restores the health of the lame, the blind, and the sick. The spiritual healer is a highly evolved soul who has the ability to infuse the soul of a sick person with his or her more evolved spiritual energy. By so doing, he re-balances the sick person’s spirit and along with it the mental, emotional and physical aspects of the sick person. "Your sins are forgiven you," Jesus said when healing the sick (Matthew 9:2 and Mark 2:5.)

Although such occurrences are certainly rare, the tradition of spiritual healing continues even to this day. In South India, in a village called Puttaparthi, many have witnessed this spiritual healing ability in a holy man named Sathya Sai Baba. Baba has been healing thousands of people with only a word, a touch, or with a spiritually infused ash called vibhutti, materialized from the palm of his own hand. This ash is dispensed freely to the sick on a daily basis.
Dr. Carl Osis, head of the Parapsychology Foundation in New York City, went to India to investigate the remarkable claims concerning Sathya Sai Baba, and he later reported: "For twenty-five years I have traveled all over the world examining the reports of mystical and parapsychological phenomena, and nowhere else have I seen such overwhelming evidence of Divinity as surrounds the daily life and miracles of Sathya Sai Baba."
In 1976, while writing his masters thesis on Eastern philosophy and mysticism, Lawrence Galante made his first journey to India to investigate the authenticity of these accounts for himself. He was greatly impressed both by the deeds and words of this great saint. He filmed Sai Baba materializing vibhutti, necklaces, rings and other objects, which he immediately gave away as gifts to his devotees. In addition, he witnessed healings and heard the testimony of dozens of people who recounted their personal experiences of being healed by Baba. Hailed by the London Times as the most impressive holy man to emerge in hundreds of years, Sathya Sai Baba has more than fifty million followers from all religions, nations, and races and over seventy books have been written about him.
All religions teach love, compassion, and service and Sai Baba inspires his followers to live in the spirit of love and to serve all humanity selflessly. Baba does not preach any particular religion nor any one path to God, but emphasizes that the spiritual essences of all religions are similar.

Following the examples of holy men from the past, Sai Baba forbids his organization to ask for money. Yet, throughout India he has built and runs free hospitals, clinics, schools, and universities where he stresses that spiritual values should be fostered everywhere in society.
